The Elusive Quest For Growth and The White Man’s Burden by William Easterly
A fascinating books by William Easterly, who used to work for the World Bank and now teaches at New York University as part of its Development Research Institute, and runs the Aid Watch Blog along with Laura Freschi, also of the Development Research Institute. Easterly has been described as an “aid skeptic”, though I am not sure this description quite fits him.The book tries to point out systematic problems with the functioning of the aid establishment, the problems of incentives for both aid recipients and donors, and a host of other issues. Easterly provides data to support his assertions where they exist and makes clear that he is only speculating when there isn’t.
