India after Gandhi

India After Gandhi by Ramachandra Guha

A wonderful and very long book about the history of India after Gandhi’s assassination (which was January 1948). Most textbook accounts of history stop at around 1950, giving the impression that that last 60 years of India’s existence had few events of significance. Quite the contrary! Guha does a fantastic job navigating Indian history from that time onwards. This is a must read for people interested in learning about India as it is today and the events that have shaped its recent past.
