The Mystery of Capital by Hernando de Soto
The Peruvian economist Hernando de Soto argues in this book that property rights for the poor are a key to their economic growth because property rights allow people to secure their rights to their possessions and also allow them to combine things in more creative ways. He also argues that extralegal systems of property rights need to be integrated into legal systems or else a huge rift between what is legally recognized and what is informally accepted can inhibit growth.
The book topped a list of top ten pro-liberty books for the 2000s.
