The vision of the anointed: self-congratulation as a basis for public policy by Thomas Sowell

In this book, author Thomas Sowell builds on ideas developed in a previous book Conflict of Visions. What he called the “constrained vision” in the previous book is now called the “tragic vision” and what he called the “unconstrained vision” is now (with some modifications) termed the “vision of the anointed.” Sowell argues that much of the intelligentsia, media, and politicians subscribe to the vision of the anointed. He discusses rhetorical tactics used in this vision to circumvent contradictory evidence. Sowell’s dislike for this vision is hard to conceal. Review by Reason magazine here.
